One of the first times I heard a saxophone was Col with Ayers Rock on their album Big Red Rock. My father had it in his collection and I still love that record. When I came to study with Col he passed on to me many techniques and ideas that will always be a part of what I do as a musician. I am constantly being reminded of the universality of many of the things he taught me as I address different types of music on the saxophone. He was instrumental in helping me build important connections between my inner musical understandings and the external realization of that through my instrument. His own experience as an arranger, composer, vocalist and player, together with his study in the USA with legendary Master American teachers Joe Allard, and Victor Morosco, Jazz greats Eddie Daniels, Warne Marsh, Graeme Lyall and others, have helped form his own unique teaching style. He is considered by his peers to be at the very forefront in the teaching of Saxophone tone production, fundamentals and Jazz improvisation.
